A plain crew neck, teeshirt or round neck top is like a clean canvas. While most prefer to play it safe with a long chain and a striking pendant, try a striking colour – a gold collar or a neon bib neckpiece works nicely here. Remember to keep your earrings minimal or skip them all together. Try accentuating the look with some bright make-up instead.
Few things are more perfectly matched that a strapless top/dress and a choker. Sonam Kapoor scored a style high in a floral Dolce & Gabbana bodice, paired with a stunning neckpiece by her mother Sunita Kapoor at the Cannes festival this year.
Boat necks are ideal to show off your layering skills. Long strings of beads or a mix of overlapping trinket chains are a good bet. If you don’t like the idea of too many things around your neck, try accessorising with feather earrings or extensions. Hollywood stars like Vanessa Hudgensand Gwyneth Paltrow are huge fans of these furry extenders.
When wearing a button-down shirt take the opportunity to show off an art deco necklace or a floral motif neckpiece. Alternately unbuttoning the top two buttons of your shirt and wearing a delicate neckpiece with earrings that compliment it also makes for an elegant option. Neon and pastel shades are at opposite ends, but they work best when paired with simple stud earrings and a coloured necklace that contrasts the outfits but matches your shoes.
Scoops, V-necks and cowls
Some of the most common necklines you will likely find in any woman’s closet, they allow you go the ‘Lady Gaga’ route with accessories. Almost nothing is off limits. Use contrasting colours, mix and match to spike your look and get the most from it. Take things up a notch; go crazy with neon, colourful faux gems and layered link chains.
