Gone are the days when bringing luxury into your home stopped short of the living area and the bedrooms. A place (big or small, cramped or spacious) that once didn’t matter to people is now the focus while building or moving into a new home. Yes, we’re talking about the sacred bathroom. After all, isn’t that where our day begins and ends, where we have our thinking caps on, where the sound of the shower blocks out every other noise in our head?
Running off to the nearest spa to pamper yourself during stressful times is not the most feasible (or affordable) solution considering almost all of the people are stressed all of the time. So the next best thing is to simply create a spa in your own bathroom! Here’s how…
Remodel your Bathroom
1. Consider repainting your bathrooms walls. For many people, muted color combinations such as cream, pale blues and greens are immensely relaxing.
2. You can’t be stress free if you and your partner are fighting for sink space. Installing a double vanity is a good move.
3. Those who don’t like the idea of having a bathtub taking up space or the idea of taking time to fill up a tub with water can opt for vertical shower closets. But enhance this by adding multiple jet sprays and even a steam unit and a bench to create a personal sauna.
4. Make your bathroom appear bigger than it is by fixing mirrors; this will create the illusion of space.
Cabinet the Clutter
Keep the clutter to a minimum. Stash away all extra cosmetics, shampoos and other products below the vanity or in the linen cabinet. Beginning or ending your day in a clean, organized environment will put you in a more relaxed frame of mind.
Basket the Essentials
Make sure you have all your essentials such as lotions, bubble bath, bath salts, massage oils, etc. in an accessible place. Buy a pretty wicker basket, perhaps, and display it on the vanity or place it on a shelf.
Terry Towels
What’s a spa feeling without some big, plush spa towels. You need something that will envelope you completely as you step out of the bath. Also, choose one that is soft and absorbent. Over sized terry robes are welcoming too.
Bath Mat
After a relaxing bath, stepping out of a hot shower only to make your feet come in contact with the cold tile can be very unpleasant. Invest in a bath mat; large ones that cover a greater surface area are ideal.
Decorate the Bathroom
1. Choose pretty shower curtains to enhance the appearance of your little spa.
2. Hang some water colours or cheerful paintings on the wall.
3. Find place for a vase filled with fresh flowers.
4. Potpourri also adds a nice touch. You could also make room for a potted plant which will help you connect with nature.
5. Get a magazine stand and stock it with interesting reads or comic books.
Set the Mood
There are several ways that will get you there:
1. Aroma therapy candles go a long way in setting the mood.
2. Carry relaxing music to the bathroom via a portable radio, CD player or ipod.
3. Throw in rose petals into the tub. Cliched but never fails.
4. Put out a tray with a wine glass and maybe even fresh grapes.
So you see, planning and executing your idea of a perfect spa-like bathroom is fairly easy! But in the meanwhile, here is a list of spas in your city for you to indulge in…
Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad.
