Butterfly, Fly Away !

Wanna live by your own rules and be accountable to nobody but yourself? The time has come. You’re of age and you’ve got a sound career…now’s the time to step out of your parents’ home and get a pad of your own.  Break free!

•    Hunting For An Apartment:

Living alone is a great way to become independent and more responsible. While you scout for apartments that you can rent, make you sure you go through a lot of apartments before selecting one. Even if you come across a really cool apartment the first time, don’t take it right away. Keep your options open and look everywhere. Once you have a few short listed, make a choice based on the rent, locality, neighbours etc. A small studio-apartment is the safest bet. It’ll be compact yet not too cramped and you’ll have your own space to do your thing. There’s no point renting a bigger place if you’re the only person going to be living there.

•    Piggy Bank Matters:

Sure, now there are no elders to set the rules for you and tell you what time to come home or how you should spend your money. Even so, it never hurts to be a little more cautious. Also, save some for later, the wise say and that, we affirm, is true. Every month, put away a certain percentage of your salary so that on a rainy day, those savings will count. At the same time, it doesn’t mean that you live like a miser but just keep tabs on whatever you’re buying and think of whether some purchases are really required or not.

•    Short-term Investments:

When you live alone, nothing is permanent unless you have bought a proper house all to yourself. Hence, it’s better to buy second-hand electrical appliances say stuff like a microwave, refrigerator and a TV set. It makes no point in buying every little thing like an iron (you can press your clothes through local cleaners) or a sound system. If you already have a computer of your own to take to your new home, great and if you don’t, invest in a reasonable laptop for your new pad.

•    Customising Your Space:

Finally, once everything else major is settled, you can focus on customising your space. Make it homey with posters, frames, candles or anything else that exudes your personality. No doubt, you’d house mostly bare essentials but by adding your personal touches and showpieces around your pad gives it your very own unique flavour!

So what are you waiting for? Now that that’s settled, moving out and staying alone doesn’t seem so hard, does it? To new beginnings, you brave young thing! The world is your oyster and your independence is dying to break off from its shackles!
