Studies have proven time and time again that the more attractive and presentable one looks in the workplace actually works to their favour when it comes time for appraisals, raises and promotions. For us women, the right approach to wearing makeup to work could mean our next big break at work! Now don’t get me wrong; in no way am I suggesting a one inch layer of foundation caked on your face, but subtle, classy makeup coupled with the way in which you carry yourself can potentially speak volumes about your personality, ambition and your disposition. Makeup is just the finishing touch to the beauty you already possess, so don’t fear it or avoid it. If tastefully applied, the appropriate cosmetics make any woman more attractive.
Tastefully applied makeup conveys that you have confidence, that you pay attention to detail, that you care about your professionalism, and that you take time to put your best foot forward. This can often lead to an increase in confidence, allowing you to bring those same positive qualities into the workplace. It is important to note that ironically, women who wear no makeup and women who wear too much makeup both communicate low self-esteem.
If makeup tends to look like makeup on you, you may be trying products that are too heavy or just not well suited for your coloring and skin type. Contrary to popular thought, wearing a foundation is not the essential base to wearing all other kinds of makeup. If you have fairly clear skin, some simple powder, blush, mascara, and lipstick can add that professional polish that is desirable in a business setting. Also, make certain that your eyebrows are well groomed. When picking makeup shades to adorn to work, stick to earthy, neutral colours. Reds, purples, dark browns reflect garishness, whereas mocha, mauves and light shades of pink are subtle, yet enigmatic. Matching tones of blush applied lightly to your cheekbones accentuates your facial features. A thin eyeliner is a good addition to make your eyes appear expressive and personable.
While make-up is a key aspect in framing your personality at work, the correct attire, accessories and hairstyles also play a big role. I’ll be back to give you more gyaan on that next. Till then, get your palates and brushes out and lets start practicing the art of subtle makeup.

Well… I will say makeup makes a woman look well groomed. These days organisations are not too strict on Formals, however striking a good balance between casuals and formals (smart formals) is also very important.
Being well dressed and groomed gives one more confidence.. which ultimately results in success.
