New Year is just around the corner and Mumbai’s restaurants are dishing out new menus to make it extra special. Shirin Mehrotra picks some of them that you just shouldn’t miss.
Yauatcha’s new menu
BKC’s popular eatery has added few new flavours to its dim sum collection. Try the subtly flavoured Black Pepper lamb roll or the Crispy Veg Cheung fun. If you are planning a late lunch, try out their wide range of dim sum with one of the more exotic teas from their extensive menu and the Honey-smoked spare ribs with Malay lotus leaf rice. Complete your meal with a portion of the delicate Jasmine cake.
Asia 7’s special Chinese menu
Palladium’s favourite Pan-Asian restaurant is now promoting a special Chinese menu. Try out the new menu for lunch on a weekday and you might just bump into the mind behind the menu – Chef Chow Man. Shark-fin soup, Fried Chicken with dry chilli, Sichuan pepper and soy, Singapore style chilli crab all make it onto the final line up. Our vote goes to the delicately flavoured, steamed whole Red Snapper served with black fungus and soy sauce. Yum!
Koh’s new popup menu
Chef Ian Kittichai tries something different with a new popup menu at Koh’s. The “What’s new at Koh” series will feature alongside the regular menu until the 30th of December. The menu features dishes like Asian Salmon tacos, Chilli-braised young bamboo shoots and even a reconstructed NY cheesecake.
Piccoli Tortini is serving wine on weekends
This pretty little cafe in Bandra is now serving wine on weekends from 12pm to 10pm. Sip on a glass of Sula’s Cabernet Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and Rose Zinfandel for Rs 300 or crack open bottle of Italian Danzante for Rs 3,000, if you’re feeling particularly indulgent. Pair any of these with the antipasti, pizzas or pastas from the menu and we’re sure it will make for an interesting meal.
Pizza Express, Colaba
The recent launch of this popular UK pizza chain in Mumbai did not go unnoticed. A flash mob and pizza tossing party for food bloggers on 17th December made sure everyone noticed. With promises of ‘authentic’ hand tossed pizzas, we think this one should make it onto your weekend must visit list.
British Brewing Company, Goregaon (E)
Oberoi Mall in Goregaon (E) has a new bar/pub. The quaint newbie with beer barrels hanging from the ceiling and beer shaped booths definitely grabs your attention immediately. If the promise of the pale ale isn’t enough to step in, you might want to check out the menu. A mix of Indian, Chinese and European dishes, don’t be surprised if you find Deep Fried chicken wings right next to Kheema pao. Then again, we’re fans of both wings and kheema, so try it out and write up a review.
With so many new restaurants and new menus mushrooming across the city, our New Year 2013 is looking busy, busy, busy; but hey, who’s complaining?
