K19, the all day dining outlet of Park Plaza is all about casual dining and serious hospitality, says Asif Iqbal.
Off a busy street in a posh residential locality in south Kolkata, K19 is one of the Park Plaza’s recent dining offerings. With a name that is both representative of the city and the pin code, this one is easy to find. Walk in and you quickly see a very spartan yet modern seating arrangement. The show kitchen allows you to see your food being prepared and makes for fun watching. Choose from the buffet available for breakfast, lunch and dinner, nibble at the salad bar or make your way through the a la carte menu; there is plenty to pick your way through.
If you have a sweet tooth and are wondering about picking from the buffet (Rs 899 plus taxes for lunch and Rs 1250 plus taxes for dinner) or the a la carte menu, let us help. The buffet menu includes a line up of desserts like Strawberry charlotte, Blueberry tartlets, Berry pannacota, Mango mousse in chocolate cups, Strawberry cream cake, Chocolate truffle hearts, Black forest shooters, duets of mango slice and moulded chocolate! Even writing that made us want to head here and make a meal of just the dessert. This impressively mouthwatering star cast was enough to seal the deal for us this time around.
We looked through the a la carte menu and ordered up a Country-style Caesar salad (Rs 375) made with crunchy lettuce, a choice of prawns or chicken and homemade Caesar dressing.
The Lebanese Mezzeh was another item in the ‘Lite Bite’ category, which was a delicious combination of flavours. Hummus, tzatziki, marinated olives, feta cheese, babaghanouj, picked vegetables and falafel served all served up with pita bread was a delightfully different set of flavours.
For those who would like to indulge in an Italian delight then the must try for you is Ravioli di pollo affumicata con agloi arostitie (Rs 575). Wow! Even the name is a mouthful. The dish, in contrast is simple, yet extremly flavourful with smoked chicken, mozzarella and ricotta cheese ravioli served in a roasted garlic wine sauce. The drink options are limited to smoothies and lassi (Rs 250) or fresh fruit juices (Rs 190).
What was exciting about this place is that there was menu specifically and specially designed for children. The names you can find on this menu include the likes of Scooby Dooby (Rs 325) – spaghetti tossed with plum tomato sauce, Chicken Nuggets (Rs 425), Fishy Fingers (Rs 425), Campbell Tomato Soup (Rs 295), French Fries/Smileys ( Rs 325) and Healthy Shakes (Rs 250)- available in Banana, Papaya and Kiwi flavours.
With so much on offer, this place definitely works to impress its patrons. A modish setting with a great balance of cusines, K19 is a place for those who like the world served up on a single platter.
